Baptists Before Luther

“The modern Baptists formerly called Anabaptists are the only people that never symbolized with the Papacy.” -Isaac Newton

The name “Anabaptist” was a name given to Bible believers by their enemies. This is why early “Baptist” groups sometimes rejected the name. For example, Thieleman J. van Braght writes in 1659:

“The name ‘Anabaptist’ was really not accepted by them by choice or desire, but of necessity…” (“The Martyr’s Mirror”)

Henry C. Vedder writes:

Koran Burning: The Madness Of General Petraeus

“The Quran burning by a Florida church, which sparked three days of deadly rioting in Afghanistan, poses new dangers for the U.S.-led war effort against the Taliban, coalition commander U.S. Gen. David Petraeus warned in an interview.” http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703806304576240643831942006.html?mod=WSJ_hp_MIDDLENexttoWhatsNewsSecond

So we are to understand that one simple Christian pastor expressing his religious beliefs in an age that has become so drunk on toleration – at least in regard to everything but intolerant Christianity – is dangerous to the war effort?

The Meaning Of The Word “Baptism”

The word “baptize” has been transferred into our English Bible from the Greek copies. Baptists have historically argued the fact that the word, in its primary meaning, means “to dip.” Many lexicons and English dictionaries make this fact clear. However, some dictionaries (even some of the better ones) have refused to enter into religious controversy. Therefore, instead of actually defining the word “baptize,” they simply state how the word has come to be used in the various branches of Christendom. It is good that these dictionaries reveal how many commonly use the word. Yet, they should do this only after strictly defining the word. If we allow theological, Bible words to be defined by the religious climate, it will not be long before “God” will be defined as “she”! (In fact, I recently read of some liberal, rebellious Baptists doing this very thing at a recent conference.)

Why Women Should Not Speak In Our Churches

Revelation 2:20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach…

1 Timothy 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

1 Corinthians 14:34 Let your women keep SILENCE in the CHURCHES: for it is not permitted unto them to SPEAK; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
38 But if any man be IGNORANT, let him be ignorant.

Organic Food And Church Attendance

There are many important things we can do to promote physical health. For example, we can rejoice in the Lord (Prov.17:22). And we can be sure to thank God for our food (1 Timothy 4:3,4). Many overlook the fact that God said every creature is good IF it is received with thanksgiving. How often Christians tend to ignore the “IF’S” of Scripture! Maybe this is why many are unhealthy. They sit down to eat and forget to give thanks. But I am convinced there is also another reason that many people get sick too easily in these last days. I believe our immune system is weakened by the antibiotics and other chemicals in our food. After quite a bit of reading on the subject, I decided to test it by eating only organic in our home. Our immune systems appeared to immediately grow stronger once the daily dose of antibiotics and other chemicals were not invading our bodies. The Lord then moved to open up the doors for our family to eat this way without increasing our food budget.

Fort Worth Tries to Forbid “Super-Bowl” Preaching

We have been street preaching in the same place in downtown Fort Worth, every Friday night for 11 years. This week, however, in preparation for the Super Bowl that is coming to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, we were met with a message from the police. The city sidewalks have been “rented” by the NFL. They are now considered private property, and thus, there will be no preaching, tracts, etc.
