Ron Paul Boldly Stands Alone Against Torture

“Texas Rep. Ron Paul on Saturday called supporting torture “un-American” after two of his rivals for the GOP presidential nomination said they would allow waterboarding to be used on detainees captured by the United States if elected to the White House.
At Saturday night’s CBS/National Journal Republican presidential debate in South Carolina, businessman Herman Cain said of waterboarding, a technique where water is poured over the face of a detainee to simulate drowning: “I don’t see it as torture. I see it as an enhanced interrogation technique.”
Likewise, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann said to applause: “If I were president, I would be willing to use waterboarding.”

Two Texas Female Lawmakers Try To Ban Paddling in Schools
Read MoreAUSTIN — A House committee heard pleas Tuesday to ban corporal punishment in Texas schools, with critics denouncing the disciplinary tool as a legalized form of child abuse that leaves lasting emotional scars.
Rep. Alma Allen, D-Houston, who spent nearly four decades in the Houston system school system, is pushing legislation that would ban paddling in schools. One of Allen’s leading allies is Rep. Barbara Nash, a freshman Republican lawmaker from Arlington and a former member of the Arlington school board.
“There’s enough violence in the world without it coming into your schools,” Nash said.
